Description

This Chocolate Cherry Upside Down Cake is rich, moist, and easy! Made with chocolate cake mix and cherry pie filling, it’s a showstopping dessert perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 box chocolate cake mix

3 large eggs

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 cup water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  2. Pour melted butter into the dish, then sprinkle brown sugar evenly over it.

  3. Spread cherry pie filling evenly over the brown sugar layer.

  4. In a large bowl, combine chocolate cake mix, eggs, oil, water, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  5. Pour the cake batter gently over the cherry layer.

  6. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  7. Cool for 10 minutes, then carefully invert the cake onto a serving platter.

  8. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For an extra cherry flavor, mix in ¼ cup chopped maraschino cherries to the batter.
  • Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 5 days.
